The following is the second part in a series of 'commandments' or 'rules' that I've seen in some form or another on various Sailor Moon related sites. This section deals with relationships within the Sailor Moon universe, whether it's siblings, friends, lovers or overall relationships. Of course, I've included my two cents worth with each 'commandment' and heavy sarcasm is applied when necessary. All outside links open up in a new window. Feel free to send any feed back to . 01.) Thou shalt not have any of the canon sailor senshi fall in love with or die for your sailor senshi. I don't see why fan fiction writers can't have/create characters that love and are loved back by any of the canon senshi...unless it's a really tasteless and tactless fan fiction that could make a mule gag. Besides Usagi is the kind of person that would care for the underdog. After all, she was even able to remove the embodiment of Chaos from Sailor Galaxia even after all the things that Galaxia had done to her. 02.) Thou shalt not separate pre-existing couples to have your sailor senshi paired up with one of the originally existing couples. Okay, so technically, this commandment is almost exactly the same as commandment 01, but it applies for couples that already exist in the Sailor Moon Universe... Usagi & Mamoru, Michiru & Haruka, and Umino & Naru are just a few that come to mind. Generally on the whole, I'd prefer to keep the pre-existing couples together, but as I mentioned before and will say again: it's not what you write, it's how you write it. 03.) Thou shalt not make thy sailor senshi related to canon sailor senshi. I know I broke this rule when I first started out, and I've seen other people who also broke this rule...and they done really well with it, and if you feel like breaking this rule too, go right ahead, but please make it believable. Just be prepared to have people come around that have more than just a bug up their butt. 04.) Thou shall not have a sailor senshi who befriends any and/or all of the canon sailor senshi, for thine idea has been overdone. If she doesn't befriend any/all of the canon sailor senshi, who will she befriend? True that she could always pull off the solo act like Sailor V did before she joined up with the inner senshi, but wouldn't that too be considered being overdone? 05.) Thou shall not have a sailor senshi that is an enemy with any and/or all of the canon sailor senshi, for thine idea has been overdone. You'll find now-a-days that most things have been overdone. Fan fiction... fan created/self inserting characters... a tough and stringy turkey leg that got more than a little crispy on the outside when it wasn't pulled out of the oven in time... Point is, I find it interesting to have a few villainous sailor senshi that fight against all that Sailor Moon and the canon sailor senshi fight for. 06.) Thou shalt not create Sailor Earth, whether she's elementally or planetarily endowed. Thine position has been filled by thy prince of the planet and thus can be the only one connected to thy position. I know that Tuxedo Kamen's the 'senshi' for Earth, even if he isn't called 'Sailor Earth' (example: The Earth Scout Chronicles). I like the character, but I've also seen some really good female Sailor Earths out there, even an Earth senshi that wasn't called Sailor Earth (and also wasn't Tuxedo Kamen) that is also very plausible. I also have a Sailor Earth of sorts, but she's in an alternate reality where Tuxedo Kamen and the other canon sailor senshi don't exist (example: Eternal Eclipse). Then again, I've seen some that just don't work no matter how hard the fan fiction author had tried. My response to this, amongst most of the 'commandments' here, is "It's your character, do what you wanna do." 07.) Thou shalt not create Sailor Star, Sailor Sun or Sailor Asteroid either. Not only has thy sailor senshi already been created, but she has been copied from some form of canon Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon character (Sailor Star - Any of the Sailor Starlights; Sailor Sun - Sun's a big gaseous star plus the sun/Helios has a pretty big roll in the SuperS season; Sailor Asteroid - the Amazoness Quartet becomes the Asteroid Senshi in the manga - Sailor Juno, Sailor Palas, Sailor Vestia and Sailor Ceres). My response is almost exactly the same as what I said for #06, except I haven't made any of these sailor senshi. 08.) Thou must create an alternate universe if thou desire to use a color or element one of the canon sailor senshi. Tell that to Takeuchi Naoko-hime. She created many different senshi, some from other galaxies, yet more than one senshi has blue for some part of their fuku (namely Mercury, Moon, Neptune, Uranus and Venus). Not to mention red (Moon, Mars and Princess Kakyuu). Now maybe if different shades of the colors were used, then things could be different/better. This is another one of those "It's your senshi, do what you want to do" rule breaking cases. 09.) Thou shalt not create male sailor senshi. I've definitely broken this rule with my alternate reality Sailor Moon Universe where the canon senshi don't exist and in their place is a group of mostly male sailor senshi (but for the most part, I call them Nega Senshi since they are negative - as in photo negative, not necessarily negative as in opposite of good - versions of the sailor senshi). I've even seen a male sailor senshi for Earth (I'm not talking about Tuxedo Kamen but he was in the fan fiction too). 10.) Thou shalt not make thy sailor senshi more powerful than Sailor Moon. I'm going to apply my answer for #08 of the General Commandments to this one. This one I generally go by. After all, the series IS called Sailor MOON, if some other character's going to be more powerful, have the most purest soul, the usurper to the throne, then it wouldn't be the same. But hey, I've seen at least one fan fiction that was written so well and had a few of the characters changed, including Usagi winding up getting married to someone other than Mamoru (and later on in the storyline, he got killed off) that it was scary, but it may not be for everybody. | |||||||||
